Dance @ St Saviours

Staff Training & Safeguarding

All our dance teachers and managers are DBS checked and have completed safeguarding training to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students. In addition, they are qualified to teach dance safely by world-renowned dance organisations including the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), ensuring they are fully equipped to teach dance safely and appropriately to students specific ages and relative stages of development. This training is an essential part of our commitment to maintaining a safe environment where children can learn dance and benefits their physical, mental and social development.

See St Saviours Safeguarding Policy here.

Guardians to Wait in Building

All parents must wait in the building in case your child needs assistance (e.g. toilet breaks). Miss Hannah teaches alone so cannot accompany children to the toilet. If sending them in alone, please ensure no other adult is already inside.

Supervision

Although we have some lovely adult helpers, parents/guardians remain responsible for their children before and after class. Please help Miss Hannah by keeping the noise to a minimum where possible.

Playing Outside

If your child wants to play in the garden, a parent/guardian must accompany them; as the garden is not secured from strangers. (If a sibling is in class, parents/guardians must inform a staff member in case the child in class needs assistance). A staff member will be present if they play in the barn.

Trampoline Safety

  •  One child at a time to prevent collisions

  • Not suitable for under 3s

  • Shoes and socks off, to prevent slipping and injury

Footwear & Attire

  • Ballet: Proper leather, canvas or satin ballet shoes must be worn (not ‘ballet slippers/pumps’ as they're slippery).

  • Jazz/Street Dance: Children should wear trainers, long trousers, and long-sleeved tops to prevent carpet burns.

  • No school uniforms - they are not practical for movement and can cause overheating

  • Hair tied up for safety.

Class Participation & Suitability

  • Age-Appropriate Classes: Children should only attend classes designated for their age group to ensure they are taught appropriate material for their physical and mental development.

  • Medical Conditions & Injuries: Parents must inform us of any medical conditions, allergies, or injuries that may impact participation

Hygiene & Class Rules

  • No eating in class to prevent choking. Water bottles are allowed.

  • Respect & Listening: Children must listen to instructors and follow class rules to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.

  • No running indoors (unless part of a dance class) to avoid accidents.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up Policy

  • Timely Drop-Off & Collection: Parents/guardians must ensure children arrive and are collected on time. This is to ensure they’re present for the safe warming up of their bodies to prepare for class, and to ensure they’re safely dismissed after class.

  • Alternative Pickup: If someone else is collecting your child, please inform the manager or teacher in advance.

Building Safety

1) Children should not enter the kitchen due to potential hazards (hot ovens/trays).

2) Be mindful of the space dividers to prevent them from falling.

3) Please do not touch the sound desk.

General Awareness

We are committing to cultivating a warm, homely feel where the children can play. However, please remain vigilant, as the building is open to the public, so please keep an eye on your children.
